L’anima del segno. Hartung | Cavalli | Strazza

Museo Civico Villa dei Cedri
8 October 2016 — 29 January 2017

The celebration at the Museo Civico Villa dei Cedri of the work of three original artists also provides the occasion for an artistic dialogue between French and Italian culture. The exhibition L’anima del segno. Hartung | Cavalli | Strazza brings together the Ticino-born artist Massimo Cavalli (*1930), the Italian Guido Strazza (*1922) and Franco-German precursor Hans Hartung (1904 –1989), with a particular focus on the sign in post-war art.

As well as gesture, the three artists share an interest in exploring the fundamental features of painting: surface, light, color and brushstroke. By examining the notion of the engraver-painter, the exhibition highlights the importance of the practice of engraving and the technical experiments in the field which also gave rise to a new approach to painting.
